Worshiping in a manner that is meaningful for you.
Discovery Time Preschool is now accepting 2011 - 2012 registrations.
Forms are available in the church office or on the preschool bulletin board.

Our church preschool, Discovery Time, will begin another preschool year in September. Openings are
still available. Registration forms may be picked up in the church office or on the board outside the classroom.
For the past twelve years we were blessed with “end of the roll” paper. Some 19-20 inch wide and some wider. Our suppliers have retired. If anyone has access to leftovers, we would love some. It was great for covering bulletin
boards and easel painting.

Discovery Time Preschool would like to thank:
Ron Williams and Frank Matchett for the new sink fixtures and the major plumbing! No more leaks!!
The Lowes, for the use of their carpet cleaner - the carpets look great!
Jim Lower for cleaning the carpets and lifting and moving all our stuff! What muscles!
Thanks to all of you for your prayers, donations and support! The classrooms are beginning to look bright and cheery
again. Stop in and check us out

Our church owns and operates this Preschool as a part of its local support and outreach to the community.  Discovery Time Preschool has a top-notch staff with an excellent teacher to student ratio.  Any parent grandparent will tell you this is a wonderful Christian-based program.  Enrollment takes place during January and February for the next school year.  Classes fill quickly.  Call the church office for more information.

Philosophy:

Discovery Time Preschool provides a non-denominational, Christian atmosphere to facilitate children's social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth. We respect each child as an individual, growing and developing in his/her own way. We encourage creativity, independent choice, responsibility, self-control and the development of a positive self-image. Religion and cultural values are shared with the children through stories, songs and simple prayer. All children are accepted without regard to race, color, religion, gender or national origin.

Program:

The preschool program is adapted to the level of three year olds to early five year olds, and is designed to aid the child in all areas of development. We have two classes (listed above). Activities are planned to meet the needs of each child individually and in group. These needs include:
  • Physical needs: health and safety, physical growth and development of motor skills.
  • Emotional skills: furthering his/her sense of trust and initiative, developing both self-expression and self-control.
  • Intellectual needs: to make choices to expand understanding and perception, to observe, investigate and enjoy learning.
  • Social needs: to form relationships with other children, to feel secure with adults.
These activities include music, art, science, snacks, stories, simple cooking and the use of a wide variety of children's equipment.

Criteria for Selection:

Discovery Time Preschool attempts to enroll a representative group of preschoolers, including boys and girls of various ages, backgrounds and abilities, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin or disability.
  •  Age · Must be 3 by September 30th for Tues/Thurs 3 year old class · Must be 4 by September 30th for Mon/Weds/Fri 4/5 year old class · Must not be enrolled in kindergarten

Objectives of the Child Care Program
  • To provide care and love for children away from their parents, giving primary attention to their well-being.
  • To develop children's self-confidence and positive self-image.
  • To foster children's listening and sharing skills.
  • To provide a positive and creative atmosphere where children can explore and learn about their world.
  • To help children adjust to adults other than parents, and interact with children their own age.

Schedules:

Children will attend preschool from September (beginning the Tuesday after Labor Day) through May (ending the Friday before Memorial Day) on the days that Northwest Local Schools are in session. We will follow Northwest cancellations.
The history and significance of the Cross and Flame emblem are as rich and diverse as The United Methodist Church. Following more than two dozen conceptualizations, a traditional symbol—the cross—was linked with a single flame with dual tongues of fire. The resulting insignia is rich in meaning. It relates The United Methodist church to God through Christ (cross) and the Holy Spirit (flame).
