Local Support & Outreach

Baby Sweaters Given to all newborns. Laurabelle Norris knits sweaters for all the newborn infants in our church and UMW “Gift in Mission” cards are included with each set.

Calvary Mission   A Church District Mission project located in Canton’s intercity, this facility has been the focus of many projects with both material and financial contributions.

Cat’s Meow   The UMW has made available to the general public a Cat’s Meow of our church. It is available in the church office at a cost of $18. This makes a great gift. The profit from this project supports the total UMW Program.

College/Service “Care Packages”   Each Fall and Spring “goodie” packages are sent to our college students and to those in the armed service. If you know someone who should be receiving these packages or have a question, call Kathy Bickett (330 854-0544).

Funeral Dinners   A dinner buffet prepared by the United Methodist Women is made available for family and friends following a funeral. Ruth Molnar coordinates the meal preparation, service and cleanup. To make a request, offer assistance, or for information call Ruth (330 854-9825), Linda (330 854-3759) or Pastor Kathy.

UMW Scrip Program

What is it? An opportunity to purchase gift/shopping cards for hundreds of different stores, restaurants and assorted businesses with a percentage of the cost of purchase becoming profit to UMW.

How will the funds raised be used? The profit made from this program will be used for developing and maintaining programs for children in our church.

How does it work and how safe is this program? You order the cards thru Linda Herald paying by check made out to UMW. The check is deposited in a special account in the Apple Creek Bank and an order is e-mailed. By ACH the money is taken from the bank and the gift cards are sent by Federal Express to the church. Linda will see that you sign for and get your cards (which look and feel like credit cards). This whole process takes approximately 36 hours.

How are some of our members using these cards? The most popular use is Giant Eagle. One person who usually buys $100 a month uses her card as a budgeting tool. She purchases a $100 card, which she gives the cashier who takes care of the purchase. The cashier writes the amount remaining on the back of the card and returns it to her. This is just like paying in cash and the full amount is used to give “fuel perks”. Several gift cards have been purchased for graduation, birthdays and for “thank yous”.

What will it cost you to participate? Just a little time . . . time to plan ahead for purchases you will be making or gifts you need. It’s really an easy way to support our church’s youth programs.

Still have questions? Talk with Linda Herald (330 854-3579).

The history and significance of the Cross and Flame emblem are as rich and diverse as The United Methodist Church. Following more than two dozen conceptualizations, a traditional symbol—the cross—was linked with a single flame with dual tongues of fire. The resulting insignia is rich in meaning. It relates The United Methodist church to God through Christ (cross) and the Holy Spirit (flame).
