Worshiping in a manner that is meaningful for you.

Our Purpose

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

The Canal Fulton United Methodist Church has a very active UMW.

Many thanks to those who helped with the Theatre Dinners in March. We had many volunteers and some worked both week ends; we truly appreciate your help.

CALENDAR OF EVENTS

August:

SCRIP

With graduations, weddings, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and birthdays coming up, please consider buying your gift cards from the UMW SCRIP Program. The UMW gets a small percentage from each card purchased, but it adds up quickly and the money is used for youth activities. If you buy gift cards from Giant Eagle in order to get Fuel Perks, buy a Giant Eagle card from us. We get 4% from every card purchased, and you get your fuel perks when you use your card.

It’s a win-win opportunity for all of us!

*In 2009, we completed the three UMW studies.

*Following The School of Missions, Marybeth Manns will lead us in the first of the new studies.

*In March, our UMW Book Club will be celebrating 10 years.

*A well attended Retreat has been an annual activity.

*Our children are important to us. We have purchased 3 octaves of Schulmerich hand chimes, which have made a children's hand chime choir a part of the Sunday school music program and a part of our worship.

*We do a brunch between the two worship services for Mother's Day. The children do the program.

*We support our preschool.

*Each December, we provide an opportunity for dozens of children to make gingerbread houses.

*Monthly Out & About gives women an opportunity to have lunch together in different restaurants in the area.

*Each summer, it's a Progressive Dinner for all adults and, in November, a turkey dinner for everyone.

*Funeral dinners are provided as needed.

*This year, we have six dinners planned in conjunction with the Canal Fulton Players at the UMC Family Theatre.

*Each year,  the first Saturday in November, we turn the fellowship hall and Sunday school rooms into "Holiday Happenings." This is our main fund raiser.

Local Support & Outreach

*Baby Sweaters:  Given to all newborns.  Laurabelle Norris knits sweaters for all the newborn infants in our church and
UMW “Gift in Mission” cards are included with each set.

*Book Club: Under the leadership of Margaret Lowe and Brenda Olenick, this group is open to anyone who likes to
read and share good books. We meet in homes in the evening on the second Thursday of the month. For more information call Margaret or Brenda.

*Calvary Mission:  A Church District Mission project located in Canton’s innercity, this facility has been the focus of
many projects with both material and financial contributions. Carole Zay coordinates our church’s participation in this activity.

*Cat’s Meow: The UMW has made available to the general public a Cat’s Meow of our church.
It is available in the church office at a cost of $18. This makes a great gift. The profit from this project supports the total UMW Program.

*College/Service “Care Packages:” Each Fall and Spring “goodie” packages are sent to our college students and to those in the armed service
If you know someone who should be receiving these packages or have a question, call Kathy Bickett.

*Funeral Dinners: A dinner buffet prepared by the United Methodist Women is made available for family and friends following a funeral.  Ruth Molnar coordinates the meal preparation, service, and cleanup. To make a request, offer assistance, or for information call Ruth or Pastor Kathy.

*Out & About:  A daytime lunch group with a focus on getting folks who are somewhat housebound out for lunch once a month.
Transportation is provided. For more details or to participate, call our program coordinator Barbara Gregis.

The history and significance of the Cross and Flame emblem are as rich and diverse as The United Methodist Church. Following more than two dozen conceptualizations, a traditional symbol—the cross—was linked with a single flame with dual tongues of fire. The resulting insignia is rich in meaning. It relates The United Methodist church to God through Christ (cross) and the Holy Spirit (flame).
